How to prepare office electronics for pickup
A little prep makes pickup faster and helps keep sensitive data out of the load. Wipe gear that stores data, reset network equipment, pull removable storage, unrack what’s mounted, and group the rest by type. The checklist below covers the basics.
Wipe anything that stores data
Computers, phones, tablets, and some printers and networking gear hold data. Reset or wipe them first. See the data-preparation guide for the how-to.
Clear network gear configs
Factory-reset routers, switches, firewalls, and access points to remove passwords, VPN keys, and network details before they leave.
Pull removable storage
Remove SIM cards, microSD cards, USB drives, and any drives you want to keep out of the batch.
Unrack and unmount
Take servers, switches, and mounted gear out of racks and off walls ahead of time. Loose equipment is far faster to load.
Group and roughly count
Sort by type and get a rough count. Put monitors together, PCs together, and cables in a box. Exact model numbers aren’t needed.
Set aside anything questionable
Pull out damaged batteries, unknown chemicals, and large appliances. Those need a different route, not an electronics pickup.
Stage it for easy access
Put the load somewhere a single small vehicle can reach: a ground-floor room, a loading area, or near a door.
Don’t skip data prep
Office equipment can store sensitive data on PCs, phones, copiers, and network gear. Start with the data-preparation guide. If you handle regulated data and can’t verify a wipe, use a certified data-destruction provider before anything leaves the building; we don’t provide that service.
