What happens after electronics pickup?

Your equipment may help someone else get a working computer or a part they need. We start by looking for continued use. This is the usual pickup and assessment process.

   You describe what you have

   Call or email with a short description and your city. A rough count and photos help if you have them; model numbers are not required.

2. 02

   We confirm that we can take it

   We discuss the equipment, condition, quantity, and transport. If another route is needed, our local disposal guide lists options.

3. 03

   We schedule a pickup

   Once we confirm the details, we arrange a pickup time with you. Pickup is free for qualifying loads.

4. 04

   We document the handoff

   When requested, we fill out a property-transfer authorization with the person releasing the equipment. It records the pickup details, equipment covered, authority to release it, and whether storage media is included. We can give the organization a copy.

5. 05

   We resolve storage data

   For supported drives, we provide data wiping that follows NIST SP 800-88 guidelines, with a written report for every drive we process. We overwrite magnetic hard drives with ShredOS and use supported device-native Secure Erase or Sanitize methods for SSDs. We check and document the result. Failed or unverifiable drives stay out of reuse and resale and are held for authorized physical destruction. We do not hold NAID AAA or R2 certification.

6. 06

   We check what works

   Once storage handling is resolved, we check the equipment for repair, reuse, and useful parts without browsing previous owners’ files.

7. 07

   We look for a second use

   We check working and repairable equipment for continued use or resale. Reuse is where we start.

8. 08

   We recover useful parts

   If a whole unit cannot be reused, we recover useful components such as drives, memory, power supplies, and cards when it makes sense.

9. 09

   We consider the next route

   Equipment we cannot reuse or recover may go to an established electronics-recycling program. We do not perform that recycling ourselves or promise a single outcome for every item.
